Wear a Mask

Masks help prevent people from getting and spreading COVID-19.

The science is clear. There is no doubt that wearing a mask, hand washing, and social distancing reduce the spread of COVID-19 and saves lives.

Get a Vaccine

All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are highly effective at preventing infection and serious illness.

By getting vaccinated, you can help restore our economy, prevent more illnesses and deaths in America, and eliminate and eradicate COVID-19.

Social Distance

In general, the more closely you interact with others and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread.

We understand that you may be tired, but public health measures are not the enemy — they are the roadmap for a faster and more sustainable recovery.

Play it Safe, Gaston!

There are plenty of reasons to play it safe this season. Who are you playing it safe for? Family, friends, and local businesses need our help.

When planning to host a holiday celebration, you should assess current COVID-19 levels in your community to determine whether to postpone, cancel, or limit the number of attendees. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.

You can wear a mask, wait 6 feet apart, and wash your hands often throughout the season to play it safe for businesses, family and friends. These simple, yet powerful actions can drastically slow and reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the flu.

Sorry if you hate needles. I do too, but not this needle. I loved it. I became eligible for the Covid 19 vaccine in NC this week because I teach in higher Ed. I was fortunate to get a spot in the Gaston Saves drive through clinic today. It was a smooth as silk process, and feels like a big step forward. I got the Moderna shot. I would have taken any shot, but I am particularly glad to get this one for several reasons - it is the one my mom took — and Dr.Fauci. One of the lead researchers, Dr. Kizzy Corbett, is a native of North Carolina and a great example of women and people of color in science. That’s so cool. Plus, who wouldn’t want a dose of Dolly’s medicine? Next dose on April 1. I won’t be thinking about the fact that that is April Fools Day.

Get used to that #masklife. Experts say might be masking up into 2022, with them coming back when there are community flares of the virus.
The CDC also says we should still practice social distancing and good hand-washing, even after getting both doses of the vaccine.

Our family, friends, and businesses are seeing the impacts of COVID-19. We've heard so many personal stories and want to start sharing why they choose to play it safe this holiday season with you.

Rev. Darial A. Jackson with St. John's Missionary Baptist Church-Gastonia says his church has been closed since the beginning of March. They will continue with virtual service because right now it's too risky.

Rev. Jackson said, "We can beat this but we need to be proactive. Wear your mask and wash your hands."

How are you celebrating Halloween this weekend? Many traditional Halloween activities can be high-risk for spreading viruses. Just a reminder: If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters. #GastonSaves
